Day of Giving Approaches
The Forysth Tech Foundation will host a Day of Giving on Wednesday, February 12th. The Forsyth Tech Foundation exists to support students and help them address non-academic barriers to success. All donations to the foundation are tax deductible and a link to donate can be found here. Trailblazer athletics will have matching gift Power Hours from 1:30-2:30 PM. During that time frame, members of the athletics department will participate in a live Q&A segment and answer questions on the Forsyth Tech Facebook Page.
Athletic Director Shelly Barnes had these answers to a few questions pertaining to Trailblazer athletics and the upcoming day of giving:
Q: What are the biggest needs at this time for Forsyth Tech athletics?
A: The most pressing needs at this time in my opinion are securing student-athletes to our rosters, completing Phase 1 of West Campus Renovations (new bleachers, redoing the floor, new video board and scoreboard up and ready, sound system installed, livestreaming capabilities in place, and completing team rooms for both volleyball and basketball) so that we are ready come August 1 when volleyball can officially start practicing. Of course, securing corporate sponsorships and partnerships in the community will continue to be a need for us, as well as building all of the processes and logistics for athletics, and making sure we have all equipment that is needed for the teams to function.
Q: Why has Forsyth Tech started athletics?
A: Bringing athletics to Forsyth Tech aligns well to the College's mission of empowering lives and transforming communities by providing even more opportunities for students, enhancing the campus life experience, and strengthening our community presence. Adding this form of programming will help us attract students who normally may not have considered Forsyth Tech and provides a highly affordable pathway to a college education.
Q: Why should someone support Forsyth Tech Athletics?
A: The obvious reasons are easy...the love of the sports, the students, and the school. However, Junior College athletics is still "grassroots" to a degree in the college athletic world, it is not highly political and all about the next NIL deal, the love of the game is still pure for 90% of the players, and students are seeing it as an affordable way to economic stability. A fact that most people are not aware of with community colleges in NC is those schools are not allowed to spend funds from state appropriations on athletics, so a business or individual that is willing to support the athletic program is vital to the programs functioning well. Supporting Forsyth Tech Athletics provides opportunities like enhanced brand visibility and alignment, recognition during games, public announcements and special events, but also can help attract more students, faculty, and funding. By contributing, you are helping build school spirit, foster a sense of pride, and helping create an environment that promotes positive social interactions and community unity.
