Hunter Introduced as Men's Basketball Coach
Lucas Hunter was named Forsyth Tech Community College head basketball coach on August 20th, 2024.
"I am excited and extremely honored to lead the men's basketball program at Forsyth Tech," said Hunter. "I would like to thank Dr. Spriggs and Athletic Director Shelly Barnes for this opportunity and the trust they have placed in me. Forsyth Tech is A Place of Promise and I am looking forward to sharing the vision of our program with recruits throughout the area as we build this program."
Hunter comes to Forsyth Tech after spending one season as the head coach at NJCAA Division I Seminole State College of Oklahoma. At Seminole, Hunter helped all three sophomores advance to the NCAA Division II level after completing their season under his leadership.
Prior to his time as a head coach, Hunter was an assistant coach at the NCAA Division II level at three different institutions in the state of Oklahoma. Hunter spent three seasons at Northeastern State University, one season at Rogers State University, and two seasons as a graduate assistant at East Central University. Hunter has coached 15 players who have earned all-conference honors over his seven seasons as a collegiate basketball coach and been apart of two top 25 teams at the NCAA Division II level including 2020 NCAA Central Region qualifier Rogers State University. While having success on the court, Hunter's teams have also performed well in the classroom and the community, earning four NABC academic excellence awards and spending countless hours volunteering for their local communities.
Hunter entered the coaching profession as a student manager at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. The Carterville, Ill., native earned a bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University in Civil and Environmental Engineer in May 2017. He graduated with his master's degree in Sports Administration from East Central in May of 2019. Hunter's fiancé, Jordan Staggs, is a resident physician at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center here in Winston-Salem.
